Teachers Gislaine and Gizele organized a fun and “tasty” activity for their Elementary School students from the Full Time period. They went to a street market in the school's neighborhood to buy pastry and sugarcane juice.
“Who doesn't like pastry? It's the best!”, said teacher Gislaine, awakening the students' interest in the tour.
In addition to the gustatory proposal, there were other pedagogical aspects involved in this activity. One of them was for students getting to know a street market, where many of them had never been. Another one was the opportunity to practice with teacher Gizele the specific vocabulary related to the flavors of pastries.
They were also able to observe the characteristics of a street market, so different from the supermarkets they usually go to, and talk a little bit in English.
To ensure proper dialogue, in previous classes, teacher Gizele developed vocabulary about fillings, sauces and some drinks. And, at the street market, the students received some illustrations especially created for the moment. On these illustrations, there were drawings of food and drinks with English words labeling them.
The students also interacted with the vendors at the pastry stall and insisted on taking a picture with them.
Teacher Gizele really enjoyed the event and her pastel, of course. She said:
“I am sure all the students took full advantage of the activity. They walked around, had an experience at the street market and expressed themselves about which filling they had chosen for their fried pastry and which drink: cane juice or soft drink.

As professoras Gislaine e Gizele organizaram para os seus alunos do Integral do Ensino Fundamental Anos Finais uma atividade divertida e “saborosa”. Eles foram à feira do bairro da escola para comprar pastel e caldo de cana.
“Quem não gosta de pastel de feira? É o melhor que existe!”, falou a professora Gislaine, despertando nos alunos o interesse pelo passeio.
Na verdade, além da proposta gustativa, havia nessa programação outros aspectos pedagógicos envolvidos. Um deles era os alunos conhecerem uma feira-livre, onde muitos nunca tinham estado. Outro, era a oportunidade de praticarem entre eles e a teacher Gizele o vocabulário específico referente aos sabores dos pastéis.
Assim, eles puderam observar as características de uma feira-livre, tão diferente dos supermercados que eles costumam frequentar, e conversar um pouquinho em inglês.
Para garantir um diálogo adequado, em aulas anteriores, a teacher Gizele desenvolveu o vocabulário sobre recheios, molhos e algumas bebidas. E, na feira, os alunos receberam umas plaquinhas especialmente criadas para o momento. Nelas havia os desenhos dos alimentos e das bebidas com as palavras em inglês denominando-os.
Os alunos também interagiram com os vendedores da banca de pastel e fizeram questão de tirar uma foto com eles.
A teacher Gizele gostou muito do evento e do seu pastel, é claro. E comentou:
“Com certeza, eles aproveitaram bem a atividade. Passearam, tiveram uma vivência na street market e se expressaram sobre qual recheio haviam escolhido para o seu fried pastry e qual bebida: cane juice ou soft drink.”
